Happy Hollisters
I have not yet had the opportunity to study up on the Happy Hollisters,
so the information here is provided by
Douglas Holmes. The books were written
by Jerry West and illustrated by Helen S. Hamilton. The 33
titles were published between 1953 and 1966 (for 30
- Mystery of the Golden Witch) by Doubleday and Company Inc.
Characters
(description adapted from a back cover)
- Pete
- the oldest sibling at 12, Pete is a study boy with sparkling blue eyes
and blond, crew cut hair. His love for sports is shared by his sister Pam.
- Pam
- next in line at 10, Pam, whose real name is Pamela, has brown eyes and
fluffy golden hair. She
- is kind to everyone and loves animals, especially their puppy collie
dog.
- Zip
- the young collie Pam adopted, this faithful pet is always on the go.
- Ricky
- a seven-year-old package of perpetual motion. Lanky RICKY has reddish
hair, which is usually mussed, and a turned-up nose splattered with freckles.
He is full of fun and sometimes teases his sister Holly.
- Holly
- six-year-old sister with tomboy ways can take Ricky's teasing and even
give it back. In fact she looks a lot like Ricky, except that she has dancing
brown eyes and dark hair, which she wears in pigtails. Holly's chief delight
is her cat, White Nose.
- White Nose
- Holly's favorite pet, White Nose is usually carried under Holly's arm
like a fluffy purse. She has five kittens, who are often cuddled by Little
Sue.
- Little Sue Hollister
- the baby of the family at four, dark-haired Sue romps in all the fun
which the Hollister family enjoys day in and day out.
- Mrs. Hollister
- the mother is always ready to meet any sudden need - for a surprise picnic
or a helping hand.
- Mr. Hollister
- the father owns the Trading Post, a combination hardware, sports and
toy shop. He is never too busy to play ball. And best of all, he likes to
take his family on exciting adventures.
